A Message from the GFL Board

UpdatedMonday July 20, 2020 byJeni Greene.

As we all continue to deal with these unprecedented times, we want you to know that the GFL Board has been working diligently to prepare for the upcoming GFL season. Our planning is the same as any other GFL season, but with the addition of how to keep the GFL family safe as we look towards our upcoming season. The safety of the GFL spectators and athletes are of upmost importance.

The GFL along with Northside Hospital Sports Medicine’s team is in the process of looking at what safety measures can be implemented to ensure we are doing our part to try and keep everyone safe and well. All of this is of course contingent on Gwinnett County opening the parks, and any other national, state, or local restrictions put in place. Keep in mind that this is a fluid situation, so restrictions may be put in place that require the GFL to make some changes to the way practices or games are handled. While we fully expect to play a regular season, we have to also be prepared that adjustments may be needed. We will continue to update our GFL family as soon as updates become available.

Thank you all for the continued support of the GFL. We look forward to being back together and on the field soon.

In response to the recent announcement by the GCPS regarding digital learning, the GFL is in consultation with our medical advisory team and a decision on their recommendation will be forthcoming. They are working with the GHSA regarding fall sports requirements. The GHSA is scheduled to meet today to discuss this issue. As we have stated from the beginning, THE GFL WILL FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES FROM OUR MEDICAL ADVISORY TEAM AND MIRROR THE GUIDELINES FROM THE GHSA. Once we have received these guidelines and recommendations, we will call a special meeting to discuss them in greater details. Plan and anticipate that meeting to be called this week (Date & Time TBD). The meeting will be a combined meeting for football and cheerleading.
Please be patient, we are working to address this latest school change policy. As previously stated, we will follow the recommendations of our medical advisory team. They just got this latest notice like we did and are working on the medical impact and recommendations. We will keep you updated!!
